Eastern Bakery is a unique bakery because our high quality mooncakes are made with fresh ingredients, pure water and no preservatives.
San Francisco is an expensive place to run a bakery because of high wages andp property taxes. But we still make our own lotus,
black bean and winter melon sweet paste fillings for our mooncakes. It may be costly for us, but it’s worth it because we are proud to preserve this authentic Chinese tradition.
When you buy mooncakes made in Asia, you can’t be sure what you’re eating. Here are some things to think about:
Pure, clean water is an important ingredient when making sweet paste fillings for mooncakes. However, in Asia, water supplies are polluted with chemicals from factories and even untreated sewer waste. There is no guarantee that a mooncake made in Asia doesn’t contain dirty water that can make you sick. Is your health worth the risk?
Eastern Bakery’s water in San Francisco is clean and free of chemicals and waste. Many people overlook this small but important detail.
In addition, mooncakes made in Asia contain dangerous preservatives because they must be made to last the three months it takes to ship from Asia to the U.S. Asian mooncakes contain a harmful chemical called formalin, which is used to bleach lotus seeds. Not only does this chemical make the lotus seeds unnaturally white, it is a very potent preservative – so potent, in fact, that no mold will ever grow on it.
All Eastern Bakery mooncakes are made in San Francisco. We ship our mooncakes fresh out of the oven, so we don’t need to add these dangerous chemicals.
Eastern Bakery mooncakes are superior to those made in Asia. Try them and see!
